While there doesn’t seem to be an exact formula comparing indoor vs. outdoor time on the bike, athletes and coaches universally agree that quality indoor time on an advanced stationary trainer can be a valuable part of your outdoor exercise regime.

Many athletes have done well at full-distance races based on a couple of indoor sessions a week of 45 to 90 minutes, with a longer outdoor ride up to race distance on the weekends.

Indoor training could, and should, be an integral part of any sports fitness training program. Getting in at least one indoor session every week can, and will, give results, paying off time and time again.
